“I will have to circle back on that one”

A phrase made popular by former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki (a.k.a. “Peppermint Patty”). I have to laugh when I think about the resemblance…

Whenever Jen Psaki was faced with a question that she couldn’t answer on the spot, she would reply “I will have to circle back on that,” buying time to collect the necessary information to satisfy the asker.

Her phrase brings to my mind a practical application, an energizing thought for my own spiritual growth and development.

Although many “professing Christians” claim to have read the Bible, it’s always beneficial to “circle back” and reread it again (and again).

One reading is not enough to glean everything that the Holy Spirit wants to reveal to you. Of course, be sure that you have the Spirit within you before even starting to read, otherwise you won’t be able to comprehend the depth of what is being presented:

““Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!””
‭‭Luke‬ ‭11‬:‭11‬-‭13‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭2‬:‭14‬ ‭NIV‬‬

The Bible is a complete book of intense interconnectedness between its many human authors, all writers having been guided by the Holy Spirit as they wrote the words that God spoke to them or words that were on their heart.

Old Testament and New Testament joined together by the same Spirit who wraps up all of human history to give mankind the complete understanding of past, present, and future events. Enough information has been presented to clearly see the love of God for his creation:

It all started good, actually very good, then man disobeyed and brought about God’s forewarned judgment, but then, in love, God intervened by sending his Son at just the right time to make a Way to reconcile the broken relationship.

Human choices and decisions will guide every individual to his or her own eternal destination; their free will guiding the way.

Many professing Christians today have read the New Testament and have immersed themselves in the teachings of the apostle Paul, to compile for themselves “doctrines,” sometimes even to the neglect of reading the gospels, and eating the words of Jesus; the bread of life.

I decided to “circle back” and reread the Old Testament, to refresh my mind and heart, the stories of the past that have given me insight into God’s will and character, the details of which have become clouded and fuzzy with the passing of time.

~ I encourage you to do the same. ~

1 Corinthians 2:14 The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God.

Greg’s passion for Bible study began when his wife, Janel, introduced him to a local men’s BSF group. The daily discipline of God’s Word drew him into closer fellowship with the Lord and inspired him to share Scripture-based reflections on LinkedIn. His mission is to encourage believers to study the Bible for themselves, examine their faith, and live with the assurance of eternal life in Christ. Greg and Janel live in Sterling Heights, Michigan, and enjoy time with their two married children, Emily and Jordan, and their grandson, Jack.
