Introduction to Christian Grandfather Magazine

How we got started

The year was 1970. I had graduated high school and prepared for college the next year. My best friend had a ‘68 Firebird and I had a brand spanking new GTO. We were groovy man! We were made for this time and we knew it!

That same year a revival exploded on the campus of Asbury Theological Seminary. Like the early church, witness teams were sent out to share the gospel. There was no preaching, only a sharing of their testimonies. When they began to share in my church in Anderson, God moved a second time. Revival burst into flames and for the next fifty days and nights the church was packed with standing room only, and out the door. People were getting saved, souls were restored, and lives were rededicated to the Lord. Kindled hearts grew restless, desiring to tell others, not only in Anderson, but also around the United States. Teams were sent out from our church now, and fires were ignited wherever we went. Like the early church we were eager to tell others of a Savior who loved them and had given himself on the cross that they may have a life of hope.

Through this revival I discovered that cars, and sports, and college were NOT why I was made for that time. No, I was made for the Gospel for Jesus Christ, and for the sharing of it with others. I was made for that heart tearing time of the Vietnam War and unrest to demonstrate that God is still on His throne, and still in charge. I was made for this day to pray for, teach, guide and stand, alongside my wife, in the gap for my children and grandchildren.

Is today any different? Our grandchildren are growing up in a time of turmoil and division never before seen in our world. Old Scratch is throwing everything he can at them to belittle, discourage, and destroy their faith. He wants to pulverize God’s truth using many things at one time. If he can confuse them, he’s got ’em!

“From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands.”

(Acts 17:26 NIV)

Do you hear that? They were made for this time! Our grandchildren were made for this time! You, grandpa, were also made for this time! God has a plan for their lives. He knows what has come, and what is coming. We grandfathers must not allow Old Gooseberry access to those we love. God is still in control. He will use our children and grandchildren to bring others out of this deception. He will use us to stand by their side and encourage and strengthen them to be strong in the Lord. We are the patriarch’s of our family and just because we are retired (or close to it) does not mean our faith, our trust, our responsibility to our children and grandchildren is over.

Christian Grandfather Magazine is a service of Christian Grandfather Nerwork, a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation located in Madison, Mississippi.

Our Purpose

First and foremost, to bring glory to God!

Secondly, we will provide ideas on how to live the fragrance of Jesus Christ In front of our family. If we can live and learn to discuss the gospel with our grandchildren, regardless of their age, we can share it with anyone. They in turn can live it in front of others.

In this busy world we have begun to overlook our responsibility of living godly lives and teaching our children and grands? We enjoy them for who they are and love on them when they come over. There is nothing wrong with that. But, there is more we need to do when they are in our presence. The Bible tells us, “You shall teach them [diligently] to your children [impressing God’s precepts on their minds and penetrating their hearts with His truths], speaking of them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road and when you lie down and when you rise up.” (Deuteronomy 11:19 AMP) That command doesn’t stop just because we are grandfathers.

The purpose of this magazine is to encourage, motivate, inspire, and teach you to be more spiritually active in your children’s, and grandchildren’s lives. It is pivotal that we also encourage your godly marriage to prosper in the Lord. Your Christ-centered relationship with your wife is a model for future generations. All of this starts with your desire to draw closer to God by building a stronger spiritual foundation in your own life.

At CGM we believe that while there are many inspiring and godly websites and magazines of both grandparents we see a need to create a place where grandfathers go to receive encouragement, inspiration and fellowship. We desire to stir up grandfathers to continue leading—to share the gospel—to help one another in doing so.

Christian Grandfather Magazine will present faith-building articles from a variety of writers to encourage a closer spiritual bond with God, your wife, your children, and your grandchildren.
