Words matter
I will say it this way, in my own life the greatest hurts from other people usually came because of careless words. The old idea that “sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never hurt me” is completely wrong. As we also read in God’s word, “life and death are in the power of the tongue”.
Beloved, we can build up or we can destroy hope, peace, joy, and love by our words. Be very, very careful how you speak. One the other hand, when words are spoken to me, it is my responsibility to decide how to accept them. I can choose to be the victim or I can refuse to be controlled by the words of another.
Remember, incredibly harsh words and curses were spoken over Jesus and He did not answer back harshly. Here is the point. Each of us must follow the Lord in controlling our words, and we must emulate the Lord in not letting the words of others keep us from accomplishing His work in and through us.
