“Children are a gift from the LORD . . .”
Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14
At some point every day, my path will cross with a young Mother and her children.
Perhaps I will hear the laughter of the children as they play in a park or ride their bikes past my home. Always, their hearts wear a smile and find joy in life.
Maybe it will be in a grocery store, as a Mother passes me with a little one in her cart. That’s always fun because they look at me like I’m from another planet.
Or maybe watch them trying to open a package of “Oreo Double Stuff” Mom just put into the cart.
I will see them in church when these tornados with tennis shoes head to their Sunday School classrooms where they will learn more about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ . . .
As a parent and Grandparent, I understand just how much one can love a child. I … like many of you, . . . know first-hand the terror of sleepless nights as we sat beside the bed of a little one ever so sick.
Why are these things so important? Can we tie them together with Matthew 19:14? Is there a message from God our Father that we should know and understand? And, . . . The answer is, “Yes.”
I think it’s safe for me to say that we all get a big kick out of children. Especially their innocence in the things that they say and do.
I wanted to know more of what God says about these miniature whirlwinds that are all around us. As I began my research in God’s Holy Word I was amazed at the number of scriptures, both Old Testament and New Testament, that mention children.
Children are extremely important to our Heavenly Father. These little munchkins, from babies to our wonderful teenagers, are priceless gifts and blessings.
So, Let’s look at Matthew 19:14
JESUS said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
I am torn between breaking down the meaning of this scripture and of its importance to children. What is the meaning of this scripture and how does it apply to us as adults? . . . both are incredibly important.
As adults, We MUST have the faith of a child. We must trust, believe, and have the simplest pure FAITH in Abba, our heavenly Father, just like that child.
Matthew 18:2-6
-
- And Jesus called a little child unto Him, and sat him in the midst of them.
- And said, “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the Kingdom of heaven,
- Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is greatest in the Kingdom of heaven
- And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.
In these five scripture verses, Jesus is specifically addressing us as adults and what it is we must become like. Our trust and faith must be pure and from the heart.
When a child looks at you, as their Mother or Father, they have complete and total faith that you are capable of giving them anything they want, and they trust that you can make it happen. So too . . . our trust and faith in Christ Jesus must be as this child.
-
- “But whoever causes one of these little ones . . . those who believe in me to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.”
Verse 6 can leave absolutely no doubt in anyone’s mind, the importance of every child in the eyes of God.
We, you and I, are also children. We are Abbas children. When someone gives their lives to Jesus Christ as their Messiah and King . . . They become like children. Because they are like a child in their understanding. We must be certain not to make them stumble and fall.
I have found more than twenty verses pertaining to children in God’s Holy Word. I don’t like long and lengthy dragged out anything. Below is a short list of just a few. Perhaps these will help us better understand GOD’S love for children . . . These children are both a gift and a blessing to us. As parents, and grandparents, we have a great responsibility to children and to God in their care.
Mark 10:15-16
Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive
the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.
And . . . He took the children in His arms , placed His hands on them and blessed them.
Psalm 127:3
“Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from Him.”
3 John 1:4
I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.”
Abbas’ love for children . . . for ALL CHILDREN OF ALL AGES is boundless, and He holds each as a treasure. May we all learn once again, to hear Abbas’ Holy Word. And may we see as through the heart of a child, God’s blessings upon all of us.
AMEN

Most people call William Moorhead, Papa Moose. He brags that he is married to an angel with her wings clipped. He and Marilyn have been married for nine years. Writing is something he never thought that he’d be called to do. However, God pricked his heart five years ago and he can’t put his pen down. He never knows what the subject will be or when God will stir his heart to write. It is Papa’s hope and prayer that his short stories will touch the hearts and minds of those who read them.
