Thanksgiving Celebration

Thanksgiving is acknowledging God’s blessings, salvation through Christ, and His continuous provision and faithfulness.

Everything good comes from God, including the world, life itself, strength, and daily sustenance.

Praising God for His steadfast love and faithfulness, which endures forever, as stated in Psalms like 107:1 Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!

Thankfulness acknowledges God as the source of all blessings, giving Him the credit He deserves.

It shifts focus from our problems to God’s goodness, combating bitterness, arrogance, and discouragement.

It keeps us humble by reminding us of our total dependence on God.

The Bible commands believers to “give thanks in all circumstances” (I Thessalonians 5:18) and to “enter his gates with thanksgiving” (Psalm 100:4).

Jesus himself gave thanks before meals, demonstrating its importance:

(Matthew 15:36) He took the seven loaves and the fish, and having given thanks he broke them and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds.

In the Old Testament:

Thanksgiving was expressed through verbal praise, sacrificial offerings, and specific festivals, as detailed in Leviticus and Psalms.

In the New Testament:

Jesus instituted the practice of communion as a Thanksgiving commemoration, and Paul encourages believers to give thanks in all circumstances (1 Thessalonians 5:18).

The Bible emphasizes that gratitude is not conditional on a person’s situation. We are to be thankful even in trials, trusting in God’s overarching plan.

It’s a time to remember that every good thing comes from above and to give thanks not just for our material possessions but also for the love, health, and community God has provided.

“Heavenly Father, we come before you with hearts overflowing with gratitude. Thank you for the gift of life, for your mercy, and for all the blessings you have poured into our lives. We are grateful for our family and friends, for the comfort of our homes, and for the food we have to eat. Help us to always recognize your goodness and to have thankful hearts.
