What You’ll Discover:
In Serving as Jesus Served: Practical Ways to Love Others, Michele Howe equips men and women to better understand their calling as God’s chosen ones to make a distinct and holy impact in the world. She begins by unpacking what it means to serve God and what this looks like in day-to-day life. Designed to be highly practical, Serving as Jesus Served offers readers specific Bible passages that describe our responsibilities as servants and how to implement them in a world that pursues the opposite.
Each chapter highlights a specific passage of Scripture for deeper study and includes a real-life story that illustrates how a servant is to respond to difficulties, opposition, or resistance from others. Every story is followed by a biblical application essay, a Take-away Thought, a Prayer of Confession, a Call to Action, and a Call to Serve prompt for every day of the week. Also included are inspirational quotations, memory verses, and introspective questions for readers to contemplate and pray about. Serving as Jesus Served answers the question posed by many earnest believers: “How do I best serve Jesus in a world so hostile to my faith?”
What Readers Are Saying:
Kathy C. Willis:
“Loving Others is the Main Thing”
As I read “Serving as Jesus Served” by seasoned author, Michele Howe, I was impressed by how we can make a difference in the lives of others by simply living our lives with the intention of being like Jesus. When we learn how to “one-another” well by turning it into a verb, we serve as Jesus served. Michele makes this concept accessible by breaking it down into doable steps for each day and providing examples of what it looks like lived out. This would be a great book to read with a girlfriend, to spur on life-shaping conversations.
Linda Mc:
“Serving Like Jesus is Love and Joy”
“Serving as Jesus Served” is an easy-to-read yet very powerful and insightful book!
As you open each chapter, you will find it beginning with Scripture. Then you will find yourself walking along with Jesus experiencing His love of serving more deeply and in new ways. This book also is most helpful for our application of “serving as Jesus served”. You will be refreshed and renewed focusing on Jesus’ example of serving others in love”
S. Champion:
“Not sure how to start serving? Read this!”
Frequently when we think of “serving,” we think missionaries, food pantry, church greeter, or bible study leader. While those are all indeed wonderful ways to serve, Michele describes many overlooked acts of service that may be less obvious and behind the scenes yet can be carried out in our daily lives through simple, disciplined acts such as: not being quarrelsome, being kind, understanding, showing grace, being patient and many more. We can’t hide behind any excuses and say “I don’t know where to serve,” or “I’m not gifted in that,” or “ I’m too limited to be serving.” Instead, Michele points out that serving comes from a mindset, and a heart set on imitating Jesus. If you have struggled with how to serve, questioned where you “fit in,” unsure what God can do through you, start here. Michele will get you thinking and will also give practical guidance on how to intentionally love and serve others!
How Do I Purchase, Serving as Jesus Served?

Even though I have not read this Book, I would like to endorse the importance of what champion is saying about the book. He says; Michele describes many overlooked acts of service that may be less obvious and behind the scenes yet can be carried out in our daily lives through simple, disciplined acts such as: not being quarrelsome, being kind, understanding, showing grace, being patient and many more.
God is Love and the fruit of Love or discernment of God is service. I have learnt with dismay that even here in Kenya, the work of an Usher is not highly regarded compared to that one of a Priest, even though an usher displays kindness, Grace, Patience, and many more. In a house, we may value only larger openings such as doors and windows, but when night comes, only the ventilation holes give fresh-air to the house.
Simple generosity is also a valuable act of service. Think about the story of Ruth And Naomi in the Bible. Ruth was so faithful, generous, and loyal to her mother-in- law, Naomi, that after both had lost their husbands, Ruth declined to go back to her family but followed Naomi to Bethlehem. There in Bethlehem, we find that she started working in the fields to provide for Naomi as well. I can say in my own words that Ruth was not well-to-do, but she was rich in love. At the end God rewards her. Not only is Ruth redeemed by Boaz, but she also becomes an ancestor to the future king of Israel.
