How close we are to God
How close we are to God is directly affected by what we allow into our hearts. Because of this fact, our spiritual sensitivity, the ability to quickly recognize what is good in the eyes of the Lord vs when the enemy is trying to deceive us, rises and falls based on whether are allowing in light or darkness.
You know from spending time with those who don’t follow Jesus that their hearts cannot recognize His truth and understand His love. But beloved, we ourselves must be especially careful. We are not immune to deception if we allow even a hint of darkness to cover our spiritual eyes.
Here is the point.
Pay attention to every source of input into your mind and heart, and ask the hard question, “Does this bring light or darkness?” And if it is darkness, then you must remove it without hesitation. Songs, movies, television shows, books, social media apps, and more can quickly and subtly bring in darkness.
I know some of these things are a part of your regular routine. I know some of them have been your companions for years, perhaps decades. And yet…if you want to be truly effective for His Kingdom and His purposes, you must do all that you can to see that your mind and heart are filled with light!
Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is full of light, but when it is bad, your body is full of darkness. Therefore be careful lest the light in you be darkness. If then your whole body is full of light, having no part dark, it will be wholly bright, as when a lamp with its rays gives you light.” Luke 11:34-36 ESV
