Walking With Lambs

by Peter Caligiuri

“Walking With Lambs is a book about my friends, says Peter Caligiuri; friends who find themselves as vulnerable as lambs and often forgotten because of age or disability. They have often been herded into a world of long-term care, where many things are beyond their control and isolated from the rest of the flock. Though outwardly their everyday lives are very different from ours, on the inside, they are just like you and me. If you will take the little bit of time it takes to read their stories you just might choose to hear their voices, visit their pasture, and help them to connect with the best shepherd of all: Jesus Christ!”

REVIEW by

Barb Hegreberg

Consider this, “…let’s begin with the radical idea that we will serve far better when we realize that God may use [those we serve] to teach us the best lessons about life.”

I wonder what our small groups, church services, volunteer opportunities, and work situations would be like if we prayed this simple prayer. “Father, we leave our egos at the door.” – Jim Howard

I love the flow of this book. Each chapter is a mix of practical instruction, encouragement and applicable anecdotes. The addition of photos of the “characters” helped to plant the lessons in my heart.

I should insert here that I serve as a regular contributor to the weekly Sunshine Newsletter. It is distributed in Nursing Homes across Florida and Western New York.

I may never start a ministry of this sort but I am able to apply many of the same lessons to my work at McHenry County Jail.
