The Bible is comprised of a wealth of wisdom, knowledge, and guidance that can be found in its verses. Among those are verses that discuss the importance of health and the value of physical wellness. Health is a gift from God and these verses serve as reminders to take care of our bodies according to His commands. These wise words provide valuable insight into how we should treat our bodies and live healthy lives. With that in mind, what are the verses about Health in the Bible?

The Bible & Health

The Bible has long been studied and revered for its teachings on faith and the afterlife, but in recent years more attention has been given to its surprising health benefits. In fact, research suggests that regularly reading the Bible can lead to improved physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. From reducing stress levels to improving one’s mood, there are a number of ways that the Bible can promote good health.

Studies have found that reading scripture or attending church services can reduce feelings of sadness and loneliness. The discipline required of regular Bible study also encourages healthy habits such as prayer and meditation, which have both been linked to lower blood pressure levels. Furthermore, many people find comfort in reading passages from the Bible during times of distress or grief; this sense of comfort can provide a calming effect on our emotions.

Physical Health

The Bible contains many references to physical health, both in terms of taking care of one’s body and treating illnesses. God commands his people to take care of their bodies, in Proverbs 3:7-8. Jesus also taught about physical health during his ministry on earth; for example, he healed lepers, blind men, deaf men, and a woman with an issue of blood (Matthew 8:3).

The New Testament brings us further teachings on physical health. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 states “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit who is in you whom you have from God?

Do not be wise in your own eyes;
    fear the Lord and shun evil.
This will bring health to your body
    and nourishment to your bones. Proverbs 3:7-8

Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

For while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come. 1 Timothy 4:8

So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31

Mental Health

The Bible provides many examples of how one can gain control over their mental health. One example is found in Philippians 4:6-7, which encourages people to seek peace by praying to God and thanking Him for his love and mercy. This scripture also emphasizes the importance of controlling one’s thoughts, believing that whatever we think will eventually become our reality.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
