Trusting The Maker

Today I repost a devotional from a year ago today. As I read this again I couldn’t remember it, thus I was struck by it like a first time reader. My forthright words stung me even; but that is what is needed often in sharing the gospel – it is truly a matter of life and death. May this devotional thought bless you today.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
And do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He will make your paths straight.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NASB)

In my life I have always had a passion for music. My tastes vary widely, my favorite genres being classical music, and Christian music. But I do like an occasional bit of ELO or Vince Gill. Some years ago, I bought a Bose Wave Radio which fills the house with a beautiful surround sound. But sadly, last year (2020) something went wrong with the CD unit. I contacted Bose and they made quick arrangements for my unit to travel to Belgium for repairs. To my joy and amazement, I had it back very quickly once more filling the house with sweet tunes. Sending the Bose to the maker was definitely the right choice; which led to the question in my mind – do we trust our Maker, Almighty God, with our welfare?

We wouldn’t trust a plumber to fix our car, or a doctor to fix your house electrics. But why would we not trust God the Creator with our eternal welfare? Just like a cardiologist knows how to fix our heart, God knows our heart intimately – far better than we know ourselves. Yet often folk in their pride do things their way, ending life unhappily or even in disaster. In my point of view this is like trying to build flatpack furniture without reading the instructions…never a good idea. In life it is sensible to trust our Maker and regularly consult “The Maker’s Instructions” – our Bible.

Dear reader, do you trust your Maker – Almighty God? Or are you stumbling around in the dark, doing things your way? Let me be blunt…the road to Hell is paved with folk who sang “I Did It My Way “! I know because I attended some of their funerals over the years. I urge you, seek your Maker and His guidance today – you won’t regret it.

I love the illustration about trusting a doctor with your car. This challenges me to trust God more with all of my life. Thank you for sharing this great bit of wisdom.
