God’s Promise to America

By Doug Pierce

“If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people. If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:13-14)

Have you ever been to an auction? I haven’t actually ever attended one, but I have seen many of them on television. When the bidding reaches its climax, the auctioneer often says, “Going… going… gone!” With that last “gone”, he slams his gavel down and he shouts, “Sold!”…to the highest bidder.

I believe our nation and the very foundation of what has made America great for these last 200+ years is “Going, going, gon…”  I believe we are one vowel away, so to speak, from seeing our nation completely deteriorate and disintegrate before our very eyes. As I study the prophecies in God’s Word about the last days just prior the Lord’s return, I have often wondered why America, the most powerful nation in the world today, doesn’t seem to be mentioned in the many prophecies of about the end times. I could be wrong, but I think I’m beginning to see why. Could it be the America won’t be around? I hope I’m wrong, but the changes we’ve seen come about in just the last decade are very disturbing. While it is easy to get discouraged about the fall of morality…the many who’d rather depend on government for a paycheck instead of work…the lack of common sense in our leaders as it pertains to the economy and national security …those in Washington who seem to literally hate the America many of us grew up in and learned to love. . .and on & on . . ., it is important to remember that the answer to the problems of our nation will not come from the White House. It must come from the Church House. God’s people hold the key that can turn this nation around for God and for good.

God tells us in 2 Chron. 7:13, “If I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or if I command the locust to devour the land, or if I send pestilence (disease) among My people. . .” Would we not all agree that we are living in a day where the blessings of God are being withheld in America? The news is filled with depressing reports of the rise of murder . . . crime rates . . .job losses, unemployment . . .bankruptcies, bailouts . . .disease outbreaks . . .illegals flooding our opened borders . . .devastating natural disasters and a mind-boggling national debt. Truly, our land is being “devoured” as I send out these thoughts!  We like to sing “God Bless America,” but how can He? We are pushing God out of every area of American public life. I read a quote by Ronald Reagan recently that hit the nail on the head when he said, “If we ever forget that we are one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under.” How arrogant we are to ask for the blessings of God while refusing to submit to or acknowledge the God of the blessings.

With all the bad news, there is some good news and, actually, it is great news. On the heels of the curses of 2 Chron. 7:13 comes the promise of 2 Chron. 7:14, “If My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray, and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” Without question, God responds to the repentance and prayers of His people. I hear church folks say all the time things like, “If we could just get the right people elected to office, things would be better in our country!” Or, “If we could just get rid of the drug traffickers and child abusers and stop the flood of illegal immigrants coming over our borders…then our country could get back on the right track!” Good Christian folks say those things as if that would solve our spiritual problems as a nation. It’s as if we’re depending upon the world to bring revival and somehow cause us to look to God again! That’ll never happen! While all of these things we keep hoping will happen would be great if they happened, we can’t depend upon the world to turn us back to God!

The reality is the world is depending upon the church for revival to come! If the Christians in America will get right with God and get a renewed passion for the Lord, THEN AND ONLY THEN will we see God forgive and heal our land. This is God’s promise to His people in all of the churches, regardless of denomination, across America! This is our only hope! And this hope is based upon the promise of a “…God Who cannot lie” (Titus 1:2). I can see the auctioneer’s gavel coming down fast on America. The last “GONE!” is about to be uttered. Will you take a stand with me right NOW …right where you are for Jesus? The starting place in taking a stand for the Lord is on our knees! Will you get on your knees and stand with me on God’s promise to the America we love!

Our God is faithful to His promises!

Think it over . . .

This is so true and a vital message for today. The answer is not at the polling place. We need to petition the Lord in prayer, and then we need to do our part—confess our sins, repent of them, and change our ways. God has given us the prescription for eternal health. We just need to fill it and follow His instructions.
